Best Kids' Easter Cookie Recipes

Children love baking and it's educational. It's like science and math all rolled up into one activity. They get to learn about measurements and what happens when you mix ingredients. This Easter, have some educational and creative fun with your kids when you try these baking activities.

Easter Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of softened butter
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons of orange zest
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Colored sugar sprinkles
Directions:
  1. Place parchment paper on cookie sheets.
  2. Beat the butter in a bowl till it is smooth.
  3. Add powdered sugar and beat again.
  4. Mix in eggs and orange zest.
  5. Add salt and flour and mix tell it becomes a dough.
  6. Continue to mix with your hands.
  7. Wrap dough in Saran Wrap and place in fridge for one hour.
  8. Unwrap and roll out onto floured surface with a rolling pin as thick as your baby finger.
  9. Cut out shapes using Easter or Spring cookie cutters.
  10. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  11. When oven is ready, place cookies on cookie sheets and bake for eight to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from oven but leave on cookie sheet for five minutes then remove and place on wire rack to cook completely.
  13. Spread butter cream Easter icing on cookies and add sugar sprinkles.

Butter Cream Easter Icing Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • Pastel food coloring
Directions:
  1. Beat butter until it is soft and stir in the sugar.
  2. Add and stir in the milk and vanilla.
  3. Beat the butter cream until it is fluffy.
  4. Divide into bowls and add a drop of different pastel food coloring to each bowl.
  5. Mix in food coloring.

Stained Glass Easter Egg Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoon of allspice
  • 40 clear hard candies
  • pastel colored writing icing
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Beat sugar and butter in a large bowl.
  4. Beat the egg and add it to the mixture.
  5. Stir in the allspice and flour and mix well.
  6. Mix with your hands to form a dough.
  7. Roll out with a rolling pin as thick as your baby finger and cut with oval or egg shaped cookie cutter.
  8. Place on cookie sheet with a spatula.
  9. Make a hole at the top for hanging on an egg tree if you like with a straw.
  10. Cut a hole in the middle of the cookie with a small round cookie cutter.
  11. Put a candy in the hole. Bake for 25 minutes and let cool completely on the cookie tray.
  12. Decorate the cookie part with pastel writing icing and let harden.
Baking cookies is fun but it always seems more like an adventure when a child gets to bake holiday cookies. These Easter cookie recipes make enough not only for the home but for the classroom too. If you do not want this many cookies, simply reduce the amount of each ingredient in half or roll up the dough and save it for another day.
