How to Prevent Blog Overwhelm

Blogging can be an amazing adventure. When people begin taking notice of your site, the increase in traffic can be addictive – you will likely want to write all the time to give your readers something new. Once you get the attention of brands, you can even receive compensation for your time spent blogging.

With all the ways to find success as a blogger, doing too much of each can become overwhelming. This can sometimes lead to burnout or unhappiness with your business. Fortunately, there are ways you can help prevent this problem.

  1. Keep yourself organized. Organization is ESSENTIAL for every blogger. Whether you do this as a hobby or want to turn it into a business, keeping things organized is a must. Staying organized can prevent frustration, missed deadlines, or the feeling that you aren’t being productive. Keeping a blogging planner is the best way that I have found to organize everything.
  2. Limit your social media time. Networking and promoting on Facebook, Twitter, and other networks is important for bloggers. Spending too much time on these sites, however, can lead to not getting your daily priorities finished. Learn social media time management so you can balance between the sites and your to-do lists.
  3. Make daily to-do lists. Many bloggers will tell you they have about 20+ tasks that could (or should) be working on right now. However, it’s not possible to do it all at once! Make a to-do list each day, and focus on just getting those things done. If you have more time once the list is completed, tackle the less important tasks that you’ve been wanting to get done.
  4. Restrict the time spent you spend blogging. At first, it can be easy to be swept up into 10 hours days, trying to build your blog into something great as quickly as you can. However, this is a sure fire way to lead to overwhelm and burnout. Instead, try limiting yourself to no more than 4-5 hours, especially if you have a job or children home with you during the day.
  5. Learn to say no. When other bloggers or brands want to collaborate with you, it can be an exciting turning point for your blog. Be sure that what you accept are projects you really want to take on. It can be hard to say no, but taking on more than you can handle – or assignments you aren’t really thrilled about – can cause you to get overwhelmed quickly.
